‘Don’t go there’ – Gray remains coy over Rangers title talk
Former Rangers striker and pundit Andy Gray has refused to admit that the Scottish Premiership title race is over after the Gers defeated Celtic 1-0.
An own goal from Callum McGregor handed the Gers a vital Old Firm win at the weekend and some have claimed that the title race is now over.
Gray believes this isn’t the case however and he is refusing to admit that his former club have the title wrapped up just halfway through the season.
Speaking on BeIN Sports, when Richard Keys declared that the title race is over, Gray said, “Oh no, don’t go there. Please no.
“We can not take that attitude, it’s a day when Rangers have taken a big step, a massive step.
“You’re not going to get me saying that [the title race is over], this was a massive day.”
Celtic have to claw back a 19 point gap to pip Rangers to the title and even though the Hoops have three games in hand, a comeback is currently looking extremely unlikely.
Rangers are yet to lose in the league and it is performances like the one they produced against Celtic that are convincing Gers fans that their long wait for a trophy may soon be over.
The Light Blues were second best until Nir Bitton was sent off in the second half but there was enough quality in the side to keep the relentless Celtic attack at bay.
Rangers can play badly and win, this isn’t ideal for Gers fans but it is the sign of a good team and it would take a dramatic drop in form for the title to not make its way to Ibrox in the near future.
Many fans will be feeling similarly to Gray, as they don’t want to count their chickens before they’ve hatched.
But at the moment, things are looking very good for Steven Gerrard’s men.
In other Rangers news, many Gers fans have ridiculed one Celtic player’s mistake in Saturday’s Old Firm.
