‘Negotiations have begun’ – Club in talks for Gers ace who Gerrard called a ‘top talent’: Report

Istanbul Basaksehir have reportedly opened talks with Rangers over a potential deal to sign Ianis Hagi.

According to Sporx, ‘negotiations with the Scottish giants have begun’, with the January transfer window now open.

The report claims that Basaksehir have offers on the table for midfielder Irfan Can Kahveci and Hagi could be viewed as a potential replacement.

However, no transfer fee has been mentioned as of yet for the Romanian.

Basaksehir have become known for their lavish spending in Turkey in recent years but are struggling near the relegation zone of the Turkish Super Lig.

Hagi exit would be a huge shock

Earlier in the campaign, a deal to potentially sell Hagi for a suitable offer may not have been ruled out by some Rangers supporters.

However, in recent weeks, the 22-year-old has looked back to his best and is enjoying a fantastic run of form.

Hagi has scored four goals and registered 10 assists in all competitions this season and he has recorded at least one contribution in five of his last six.

His run of form had led to some serious conversations about his place in the team as a regular, with Ryan Kent struggling in recent weeks.

Transfermarkt currently value the player just over £4million, but that would surely not be enough to tempt Steven Gerrard – who has always been a huge admirer – into any kind of January deal, especially with the player under contract until 2024.

Gerrard called Hagi a ‘top talent’ after his winner in the game against Hibs last year.

Hagi is a player that still has so much left to give for Rangers and the Ibrox outfit will feel sure that they have no yet seen the best him of him in Scotland.
