‘Crazy’ – Michael Stewart baffled by what happened in Rangers 3-0 win v Saints

Michael Stewart was baffled by Michael O’Halloran’s red card in St Johnstone’s 3-0 defeat to Rangers in Perth on Wednesday night.

O’Halloran, 29, came off the bench in the 77th minute but lasted no longer than six minutes due to his apparent desire to get Boxing Day off.

The former Rangers attacker was booked in the 81st minute for a foul on Alfredo Morelos. Two minutes later he was trudging down the tunnel after clattering Borna Barisic.

Ex-Hearts midfielder Stewart was highly critical of O’Halloran’s second challenge especially.

“That second one, when you’re sitting on a booking already and to go flying into the tackle. And it’s not just the initial stretch with his right foot, his left one comes through a clatters him as well,” said Stewart on BBC Sportscene on Wednesday.

“It’s just crazy.”

He used to play for us…

O’Halloran was sent off after coming off the bench for St Johnstone in a 3-0 home defeat to Rangers.

It just goes to show how far the club has come in the last few years because the former Celtic academy player used to get plenty of game-time for us.

O’Halloran made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues after signing from St Johnstone in February 2016.

He helped us win promotion from the Scottish Championship with three goals in 12 second-tier appearances before keeping his spot in the first-team in the Premiership.

The winger had some good games and some bad, but it was his ill-discipline that pretty much cost him a place at Rangers when he was shown a straight red card five minutes into a 2-0 win against Motherwell in January 2017.

O’Halloran ended up being frozen out by Rangers while Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha were at the helm but has since returned to McDiarmid Park.

After seeing his disastrous cameo on Wednesday, it makes you think how well the club has done in recent years to move on from players like that to the likes of Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo.

In other Rangers news, fans were drooling over this “ridiculous” player’s performance at McDiarmid Park.
