Rangers cannot afford to lose midfielder Glen Kamara to Premier League strugglers Brighton when the January transfer window opens.
In a special January transfer window report, the Daily Mail have earmarked the Finn as potentially the only player that Graham Potter’s side are looking at when the window opens next month.
Writing in the report, they say this about Brighton’s interest in the Rangers man: “Midfield appears the area Potter wants to work his magic on most urgently and Glen Kamara of Rangers is on the radar.
“Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has no interest in losing Kamara – who signed a four-and-a-half-year deal when he joined in January 2019 – but the offer of Premier League football could swing it for the 25-year-old Finland international.”
Brighton have been tentatively linked with Kamara in the past, but it appears that speculation could now increase over the coming weeks and months.
Gerrard will be fully aware that Kamara’s performances are garnering attention elsewhere, with the manager recently sending a clear contract message to the Gers board.
Kamara has been a consistent figure in the Rangers squad this season, making 14 league appearances, while also impressing in the club’s Europa League campaign.
Squad must stay together
Rangers may be sitting pretty 16 points clear at the top, but Gerrard must avoid any major departures from his squad next month.
The Gers are in a brilliant place when it comes to their squad balance and Gerrard himself reiterated his happiness earlier this month when he claimed it was the ‘best he has felt’ about the players he had at his disposal.
You also only have to look at the reaction of Connor Goldson to Cedric Itten’s goal against Motherwell to see the current mood in the camp – confidence is high and any high-profile departures could disrupt what has been a near-faultless campaign so far.
It was recently reported that the club will have to sell big names, potentially in the summer, and the Gers must do all they can to wait until that point.
A massive 16 points clear at the top, no.55 is in sight for Gerrard and Rangers if they continue with their current momentum.
