Jamie Carragher believes that Celtic won’t beat Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title this season as the Hoops won’t win their Old Firm clashes.
In all likelihood, the Bhoys will have three more clashes against the Gers this season and with two of them coming at Ibrox, Carragher can’t see Neil Lennon’s side snatching a win.
Speaking to Open Goal, Steven Gerrard’s former teammate cited Celtic’s recent loss to Ross County as a key reason for why the Hoops won’t win the league.
He said, “You’ve [Celtic] got to win the next three Old Firms and that’s not happening is it? And two of them are at Ibrox.
“It’s done. When you’re getting beat by Ross County at home in the cup, you’re not winning two league games.”
The Gers won the first Old Firm of the season 2-0 as a Connor Goldson brace secured another victory at Celtic Park for Gerrard’s side.
The next Old Firm clash is in early January as the Gers look to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Gerrard’s side will go into the game as favourites unless their form severely drops off over the next few weeks.
The Gers players will be full of confidence as they take on their fierce rivals at home after already winning at Celtic Park this season.
The Hoops will need to improve on their last Old Firm performance as in this season’s 2-0 loss to the Gers, Celtic failed to test Allan McGregor at all.
Carragher is right, if Celtic are to have any hope of winning the title this season then they need to win the rest of this season’s games against Rangers.
If the Gers can secure another win against their city rivals then it would be a major boost to their own title hopes as they would pull further away from their nearest challengers.
Many Gers fans won’t want to get carried away but there is no understating how important January’s Old Firm clash could prove to be.
In other Rangers news, the Gers could battle with some top European sides in an effort to sign a young star.
