‘On fire’ – Barry Douglas sends Instagram message to Rangers ace after Motherwell win
Rangers returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon, sweeping aside Motherwell 3-1 after a shaky start at Ibrox.
After falling behind early, the Bears rallied to eventually take home the three points thanks to Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten.
Steven Gerrard rotated once again, bringing in Jermain Defoe to partner Roofe with Alfredo Morelos serving the last of his two-game ban.
Roofe has certainly cemented his spot at Ibrox now.
The striker found the back of the net twice, and his poaching instincts are starting to shine for the Light Blues in the final third, with two great finishes.
Reacting on Instagram after the victory, Roofe was left imagining what it would have been like in a packed-out Ibrox when he found the back of the net.
His former Leeds United teammate and Scotsman Barry Douglas reacted to the post, and he is clearly enjoying the form of his former striker.
“The Roofe is on fire,” he replied.
The Roofe is certainly on fire right now.
With Morelos not firing on all cylinders and also being suspended, it was critical that someone stepped up for the Gers this season, and Roofe is that man.
The 27-year-old is charging towards James Tavernier at the top of the scoring charts and is only three behind the skipper as he looks to pick up the Golden Boot award in his first year at Ibrox.
Roofe is averaging 0.94 goals every 90 minutes [BBC], and if he can increase that average to one a game, the Bears will charge towards their first title in years with ease.
Gerrard will be delighted with Roofe, and this is starting to look like one of our most important signings in years – long may this success continue.
