‘He needs to step up’ – Some Rangers fans tear apart player who ‘should’ve come off’ v M’well

Some Rangers fans have heavily criticised Jermain Defoe’s performance against Motherwell on Saturday afternoon.

Defoe started up front in place of the suspended Alfredo Morelos but failed to impress some fans as his side struggled against Motherwell.

Defoe failed to ask any serious questions of Jordan Archer in the Motherwell net as he turned in a rare poor performance after impressing during his limited outings this season.

The 38-year-old was subbed off in the 62nd minute with Ianis Hagi replacing Defoe on what was an afternoon to forget for the veteran striker.

The former Tottenham man struggled against the Motherwell defence as he was bullied by the centre backs he came up against.

In fairness to Defoe, his teammates weren’t producing many quality balls for him to get on the of but he still didn’t offer enough as the Gers struggled to break down Motherwell.

Cedric Itten replaced Defoe and the Swiss international immediately proved to be a harder prospect to deal with for the Motherwell defence as he scored his side’s second goal.

Many fans wanted Defoe subbed off at half time as he struggled to have any impact against a strong opposition defence.

One fan even questioned if Defoe should be at the club as he accused the striker of not turning up in the big games.

With Morelos available for the Gers’ next game, Defoe could be set for a spell on the sidelines after thoroughly underwhelming against Motherwell.
