‘So important to me’ – Rangers boss Gerrard hails one of his ‘best signings’
Steven Gerrard has hailed his assistant Michael Beale as one of his “best signings” since taking the role as Rangers manager in 2018.
A former coach with Chelsea, Beale has become an integral part of the relentless Rangers machine, with Gers currently on a nine-match winning run in the Scottish Premiership.
With just four goals conceded in the league and a 13-point lead over Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the table, the Gers look incredibly well-drilled and well-coached.
Paying tribute to Beale, Gerrard said that he was “so important” as part of the overall coaching setup.
“Mick has been fantastic for us and one of my best signings for sure,” he said (via The Herald).
“He’s so important to me, to us and to the club. He’s got incredible experience for where he’s at in his own career. But he plays an important role within our staff team.”
Well-oiled machine
The transformation that Rangers have undergone in recent years is incredible and that is testament to the quality work put in on the training ground by the likes of Beale.
The defence has been tremendous for a while now, but the attack has also clicked into gear this season, with the Gers having scored 47 goals in their first 17 league matches of the season (via WhoScored).
The strides taken by certain individuals have also been stark and that again suggests that the training ground has become a great environment for players to work on their skills and get better.
James Tavernier, despite playing right-back, has more goals and assists than any other player in the division, while the likes of Glen Kamara and Connor Goldson have grown into crucial first-team players. Their form has also translated into the Europa League, where they topped a tough group including Benfica.
While it is tough to really attribute aspects of a team’s development to one coach or another, it is clear how much Gerrard values Beale, and alongside experienced hands like Gary McAllister, the first-time boss seems to have found a great balance in his backroom staff.
