‘My best football’ – Rangers star makes claim about current form after Dundee Utd win

James Tavernier believes he is playing some of the “best football” of his Rangers career, after another match-winning showing against Dundee United.

The skipper scored and provided an assist as the Gers maintained their winning run in the Scottish Premiership, which now stretches to nine matches, with a 2-1 victory at Tannadice Park.

Tavernier’s goal was a wonderful free-kick from distance and he said that the management team at Ibrox had given him the “freedom” to enjoy himself on the pitch.

“I think I am playing some of my best football since I have been here,” he told RangersTV.

“I am really enjoying my football, but that comes from the lads that I am playing with and the tactics and the way we play, from the gaffer to Mick [Beale] to Gaz [Gary McAllister] – I feel the whole management team has really given me the freedom to really enjoy my football and that is what I am doing.

“The squad is stronger than ever and we are really pushing on and working hard. We are always looking to improve as a team and personally, so we just need to keep going.”

Best in the league

The form of Tavernier so far this season has been nothing short of incredible and he now leads the Scottish Premiership in terms of goals and assists (via WhoScored).

While Rangers were dominant against Dundee United in terms of shots and possession, it was the captain who made the difference and his ability to deliver matchwinning moments looks to be growing as he becomes more confident.

The Gers also seem to be wearing the pressure of title favourites with ease and it is tough to see that changing while Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent and Scott Arfield, among others, are playing so well.

Given his recent form, the 29-year-old is surely the favourite for player of the season, while he can only add to his already extraordinary goalscoring tally for a right-back.
