Ally McCoist admits Rangers striker Cedric Itten proved him wrong with how he scored his goal in the 2-0 win against Lech Poznan on Thursday night.
Itten, 23, blasted the Light Blues into the lead in the first half with a powerful finish at the goalkeeper’s near post.
However, McCoist admitted at half-time that he was begging for the Swiss striker to place his shot across the goal into the far corner.

Despite being proven wrong, the Ibrox legend was more than happy to see Itten netting his third goal for the Glasgow giants.
“What a finish it is,” McCoist said at half-time on BT Sport 3.
“He sidesteps [Djordje] Crnomarkovic and I thought he was going to go low and hard across the goal. But what a finish it is. He just smashes it through the goalkeeper.
“It’s a lovely sidestep, Crnomarkovic gets wrong-footed and the finish itself is fantastic. He hits it really well.
“For all intents and purposes, I thought he was going to go across the flat side of goal and force a save out of the goalkeeper but thankfully, he didn’t listen to me.”
McCoist not the only one left Itten his words
Itten has not done a lot to suggest he’s a prolific finisher in his time at Ibrox but we have to hold our hands up and admit that we didn’t expect him to score at that tight angle.
The former St Gallen forward absolutely blasted the ball towards the goalkeeper.
Even though the ball went into the goal near to the Lech Poznan ‘keeper, he didn’t have a nanosecond to react to how powerful the ball was struck by Itten.
Itten has only started four games since joining the Light Blues and now has three goals for the club.
You would imagine that if he started more, he would get more goals.
Fortunately for Itten, the fixture list absolutely crammed full for the rest of December with Rangers still to play six more times this month before an Old Firm tie against Celtic at Ibrox on January 2.
Steven Gerrard is bound to rotate his squad a lot in the coming weeks and Itten will no doubt have his eyes on that Old Firm derby to try and cement his spot in the starting line-up.
He has a lot of competition though.
