Ibrox View: Jim White rips into Celtic statement in broadside Gers fans will love

Jim White and Simon Jordan have ripped apart the statement of support for Neil Lennon from the Celtic board, with White saying, “It’s the worst possible message to give the fans.”

In the statement Celtic said, “The Board has come to the conclusion that our collective objective is best served by continuing to support Neil and his team as they seek solutions for those challenges.

“The Board continues to work closely with Neil and his team to support them as they seek to do so and progress will be reviewed in the new year.”

Talking on the White & Jordan Show (talkSPORT, Tuesday, 12.30pm), Jordan said, “If he doesn’t win games or the Scottish Cup final then he’s going to be taken out.

“It says if you don’t improve things by January we’re going to fire you, that’s how I read it.

Jim White said, “Reading between the lines it’s the worst possible message to give the fans. They’re just saying for the moment we’re going to stumble on.

“He [Lennon] is one of their own. Maybe that’s holding them back.”

Rangers

Rangers fans are loving what’s going on at the moment and the statement was probably the best thing that Celtic have ever done for us.

Stumbling on until the Cup Final and then the Old Firm game against Rangers will see Celtic fully out of contention for the title if things carry on as they have been.

And it’s almost impossible to see anything changing with Lennon in charge.

Celtic aren’t just bad at the moment, they’re historically bad. This is as bad as Celtic have been for as long as we can remember.

Two wins in 12 is relegation form, let along that of a team challenging for honours.

And we agree with White and Jordan. This statement from the club falls short of supporting Lennon without doing anything decisive.

It’s effectively buying them some time while they can watch what happens to results and with Celtic suffering from a lack of confidence, that’s the last thing the players need.

As far as we’re concerned, this will heap even more pressure on Celtic at the perfect time for Rangers.
