‘I was really impressed’ – Allan McGregor blown away by one Rangers youngster
Allan McGregor has been blown away by the development of young Rangers goalkeeper Robbie McCrorie this season.
McCrorie is currently on loan at Livingston and getting plenty of top-flight experience as he has started ten of his current side’s 16 Scottish Premiership games this season.
McGregor told the Rangers YouTube channel that the experience McCrorie is currently getting can only benefit his development and raved about what he has seen from the youngster.
He said, “I rate Robby very highly. The first day I came in, when we were in Spain for pre-season, he looked very, very good. I was really impressed by him so hopefully, he can progress, move on, keep his feet on the ground and do really well.
“He is doing what I did and going out and playing. He has probably played a lot more games than me at that age so it can only be beneficial for him.
“I think it will be really good for his career, massively beneficial for him. A lot of young guys are away on loan to get experience and that can only be beneficial for the club and the players.”
McCrorie has only missed a handful of league games for Livingston this season and one of those was against his parent club.
The 22-year-old has been eyed as a natural successor to the 38-year-old McGregor and top-flight experience is one of the key stages in any young player’s development.
Though, McCrorie hasn’t played since mid-October after dropping to the bench and testing positive for coronavirus. He has kept two clean sheets in his 10 appearances as Livingston fight at the bottom of the league.
McGregor meanwhile, remains to be number one at Ibrox and is showing no signs of slowing down as the Gers hunt down the Scottish Premiership title.
He has kept 10 clean sheets in 15 competitive appearances this season which is simply phenomenal though a lot of credit has to go to the near-perfect Rangers defence.
There can be few better mentors for young goalkeepers like McCrorie than McGregor and hopefully, the veteran is correct and he can develop into a solid player for Rangers.
In other Rangers news, Adrian Durham has claimed that only one thing can help Celtic win the title this season.
