‘Can’t do that’ – Ally McCoist savages Rangers player despite 3-2 win v Standard Liege
BT Sport pundit Ally McCoist slammed the performance of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos after a scrappy 3-2 win against Standard Liege at Ibrox.
Morelos didn’t get on the scoresheet, with defenders Connor Goldson and James Tavernier getting vital goals, alongside Scott Arfield.
Morelos cut a frustrated figure on Thursday night and seemed annoyed with himself at times.

“He [Morelos] can’t do that, he can’t lose it there. That’s sloppy play,” McCoist said.
“I just felt in general play tonight he’s got to do more. He’s got to help his defence and his midfield out, get a throw-in, get a free-kick, take the pressure off.
“He was disappointing tonight but let’s face it he’s scored some really important goals for Rangers.”
Still unbeaten
Rangers kept up their incredible unbeaten start to the season despite an early scare against Standard Liege on Thursday night.
The visitors took the lead in the sixth minute and then again shortly after Goldson had equalised.
But this Gers side doesn’t give up and scored another two goals to qualify at a canter from Group D and stay top, ahead of Benfica who also won and qualified.
A win against Lech Poznan will see them win the group.
There were some good performances from the Rangers side last night, from Tavernier and Goldson in particular.
And qualifying early gives Steven Gerrard the option to rest some players in Poland next week. They still want to win the group but this takes a lot of pressure off.
None of the front three got on the scoresheet last night, so it wasn’t just Morelos who was off the boil.
But, so much is expected from the star striker that it’s unusual when he doesn’t score. And McCoist is right – he was sloppy at times, but he’s still an incredibly vital player to Rangers as they continue to fight on two fronts.
