It’s a huge match for Rangers on Thursday and a win at Ibrox would be a massive step towards winning the Europa League group.

Rangers will qualify with two matches left if they win and Lech Poznan don’t beat Standard Liege

Rangers have already shown they can take the game to Benfica and should have come away with all three points from the reverse tie in Portugal.

And Rangers fans will be bouncing after pre-match comments from Steven Gerrard that prove just how far the team has come this season.

Talking to BT Sport ahead of the game on Thursday Gerrard said, “With three games to go we have given ourselves a fantastic platform, but we are playing against a really good team with top players.

“But we are going to go foot to the floor on Thursday and give it everything we can to try and get the job done, because maybe it can help us further down the line domestically… We certainly want to get it done as quickly as possible.”

Rangers fans don’t need telling that Benfica are no mugs. This is an established European side with some world-class players.

Gerrard is talking about taking the game to Benfica and going for the jugular to finish Europa qualification off early.

It shows the confidence that’s around the club at the moment – and why not? Unbeaten in all competitions and 11 points clear at the top of the Premiership.

Gers also have a hugely intimidating front three with Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe all playing brilliantly.

Rangers are big favourites to win at Ibrox as well, with odds of 11/10 for the home win and 5/2 for the draw and for a Benfica win.

It helps that Benfica could be without nine first-team players for the game but this is a new, ruthless Rangers side spearheaded by Gerrard.

His pre-match comments are proof.
