Some Rangers fans rave about ‘Phenomenal’, ‘Monster’ player in UEL win v Standard Liege

Calvin Bassey turned in a performance of the highest quality as Rangers beat Standard Liege 2-0 in their first Europa League group game.

Rangers took the lead in the first half through a Tavernier penalty after a Liege player handled in the box. The Gers captain took his goal tally to nine in his last 10 with an expertly dispatched penalty.

Kemar Roofe added a stunning goal in second-half injury time, scoring from his own half as Rangers maintained their unbeaten record in all competitions and claimed their second big win in the last week following Saturday’s Old Firm victory.

Despite starting on the bench, Bassey came on at the end of the first half after Borna Barisic picked up an injury. He immediately got off to a bright start as he broke forward to challenge the Liege defence.

In the second half, he was borderline unplayable on the left-hand side, as no Liege players could get near him going forward or passed him when the home side attacked. Bassey looked like a player who had played in Europe for years and wasn’t intimidated by the occasion.

Some Rangers fans took to social media to express how impressed they were with the 20-year-old.

Here are how some Gers fans reacted to Bassey’s performance:
