‘Seething’ Lennon demands apology after honest Celtic assessment on BBC from former Rangers star
Neil Lennon is ‘seething’ and on the warpath after former Rangers defender Maurice Ross gave an honest assessment of his Celtic side after the routine 2-0 defeat against the Gers.
Ross, now first-team coach at Motherwell, was talking on the BBC’s Sportsound show when he said, “That starting 11 was probably the weakest I’ve seen from them in 20 years.
“Griffiths, struggling for fitness? How long does he take to get fit that boy, Ajeti?”
It’s fairly honest, if opinionated stuff, from Ross, but Lennon didn’t like the comments at all.
He hit back in the Scottish Sun saying, “I was surprised and very disappointed.
“There is a professional standard, a professional etiquette, a professional respect and I think Maurice was lacking in all three of those.
“I don’t think he owes me an apology, I think he owes my players an apology, I think he owes my coaching staff an apology and I think he owes my club an apology.
“I think he owes his own club an apology too.”
Apology is all he’ll get from Old Firm clash
Lennon might get his apology but it’s all he’ll be getting from the Old Firm game.
Many pundits said the Celtic team was awful, including diehard Celt Chris Sutton who branded it a ‘reserves’ side.
Perhaps Lennon owes his club and players an apology for putting out a side that couldn’t even raise itself for a home Old Firm derby.
The players didn’t look up for the fight and the points were Rangers as soon as the first goal went in.
It’s a convenient deflection away from the issues at Celtic at the moment, which have been apparent all season.
Meanwhile, both sides get their Europa League campaign started today and we wouldn’t like to be in the Celtic dressing room ahead of their game against AC Milan.
Two heavy defeats in a matter of days will put even more pressure on Lennon, with some fans already calling for his head after the Old Firm game.
