Ex-Rangers ace Halliday cheekily calls for Celtic to be deducted ‘nine years’ worth of points’

Former Rangers utility man Andy Halliday has joked that he would like to see Celtic docked “nine years’ worth of points” for Boli Bolingoli’s breach of quarantine protocols.

The Hoops are facing major controversy over the full-back’s whistle-stop visit to Spain last week, a trip that has led to the postponement of Scottish Premiership.

And Halliday, who left Ibrox this summer, has suggested that he would like to see the Bhoys face an even greater punishment.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, the boyhood Ger cheekily argued that Celtic should lose enough points to negate their nine previous title wins.

He said: “Listen what I would like to see get done is they get deducted nine years’ worth of points. I think that would be ideal. That is what I want to see come the end of this.

“Listen, Bolingoli’s stupidity has obviously given Rangers a huge opportunity to go 11 points clear before Celtic even kick a ball.

“One thing I will say about this Celtic team is that they have never been in a position to chase, so it will be interesting. They have these games in hand but I am sure everyone would agree that you would rather have the points in the bag than make up ground.”

“I think it is a real opportunity for Rangers to take advantage of the situation.”

What should we make of Halliday’s comments?

As much as we would love to see them come to fruition, we can’t see it happening somehow.

In all seriousness though, the idea of the Hoops being deducted points this season is one that needs to be discussed.

TalkSPORT host Adrian Durham has argued that it must happen, and we would be inclined to agree.

That may just seem like bias because of our affiliation with the Gers, but the truth is that Bolingoli’s actions were shockingly irresponsible, and he must be made an example of to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.

Aberdeen should be deducted points too for the eight players that went to a city centre bar recently.

They’re harsh measures, but the stakes of what we’re dealing with at the moment are also incredibly high, and they require an unprecedented level of policing from the relevant authorities.
