Rangers boss Gerrard claims Docherty has been given permission to speak to Hull City

Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has been given permission to speak to Hull City, according to Steven Gerrard.

The player impressed during a loan spell with Hibernian last season, registering three goals and five assists in eight matches before the Scottish season was curtailed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Gerrard also suggested that Hibs are in ongoing talks for Ross McCrorie, despite a recent report from the Scottish Sun reporting that deal was dead in the water after a £200,000 bid was rejected.

But it would appear that permanent exits are still very much on the cards for both players.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, the manager said: “Hull are in for Greg Docherty so he has had permission to  speak to them.

“We have had some interest from Hibs in Ross McCrorie. Those talks are ongoing.

“Ross and Greg will not be going on loan.

“If we get bids that we like, that are good enough and big enough, we will consider them.”

Will Docherty leave Rangers this summer?

This latest update straight from the manager would seemingly suggest that it is a very strong possibility.

Whether that is the right decision is a matter of debate.

Granted, he would very probably struggle to break into Gerrard’s starting XI this term, but there is definitely a talent in there.

Eight goal involvements in eight matches is no mean feat at any level of the professional game, and his average of 90.89 successful actions per 90 minutes actually exceeds Scott Arfield‘s average for the season by 15.74 per game, as per Wyscout.

The 23-year-old also recorded an average of eight dribbles per game during his time with Hibs, a big improvement on Arfield’s average of 1.8.

He’s still young and he’s clearly got something about him, but if Gerrard has made his mind up to sell then it’s almost certainly curtains for the player’s time at Ibrox.
