Ibrox View: Rangers could get 20/21 boost after transfer reports on rival striker

All the focus this season should be on Rangers and what Steven Gerrard can magic up between now and the season kicking off in August.

Silverware is the aim and the Premiership is the biggest prize of them all – bigger this season than ever.

The bookies think that Celtic are going to win 10-in-a-row. Their odds are just 1/2 to win the league, with Rangers at 2/1.

For those not familiar with betting, that means that if the 20/21 Premiership was run three times, the bookies think Rangers will win it once.

Those odds could shift if Celtic were to lose their star player and the Mirror reported on Sunday that Leeds will try to sign Odsonne Edouard if they get promoted.

That’s looking very likely now although it’s still possible that Leeds could implode again as they did in the 19/20 season.

However, getting Edouard’s name out early and connected with the Premier League can only be good for Rangers.

And the news continued as subsequently the Sun not only claimed that Crystal Palace were looking at a £25m deal for the striker, but that Brendan Rodgers was keeping tabs on the player that he bought in for just over £9m.

The 22-year-old has scored at a rate of almost one goal a game since signing for Celtic and he got a goal in each of the Old Firm Premiership games last season.

Celtic would be a weaker side without Edouard and although the Mirror report claims that Celtic don’t want to lose him, the lure of the Premier League – and a possible reunion with Rodgers at Leicester – could be too strong for the France Under-21 international to resist.

We can but hope.
