Ibrox View: Adrian Durham call to dock Celtic points will surely delight Rangers fans

Rangers have started the 2020/21 league campaign perfectly.

Three games in, nine points won, no goals conceded – the Gers are flying.

The same cannot be said of bitter rivals Celtic, however.

After dropping their first points of the season against Kilmarnock at the weekend, the Hoops have found themselves embroiled in a huge controversy after defender Boli Bolingoli contravened quarantine protocols by travelling to Spain last week.

Upon his return he failed to observe any kind of isolation period, and even played in the 1-1 draw against Killie on Sunday.

Naturally, everybody – from authorities, to supporters, to the club themselves – are up in arms at the situation, and three games have since been called off in light of his actions.

But talkSPORT host Adrian Durham believes that the relevant governing bodies need to make an example of the player, and has demanded that the Bhoys are docked points.

He said: “I think it’s right, the idea of docking points.

“They should have the point they won against Kilmarnock docked from them.

“The game against St. Mirren has been postponed so St. Mirren should be awarded a 3-0 win. Aberdeen’s game against Hamilton has been postponed so so Hamilton should get a 3-0 win.

“Celtic v Aberdeen on Saturday had to be postponed, both should be docked three points. That’s what should happen.”

This is a radical call from Durham, but we can’t say we disagree with him.

Obviously, any Rangers fan in their right mind is going to want the Hoops to be at as much of a disadvantage as possible this season as they pursue 10-in-a-row.

The prospect of them starting again from scratch while we storm into a huge lead is one that will surely delight anybody in the blue half of Glasgow.

But this is about more than just rivalry and loyalism.

The fact of the matter is that Bolingoli must be made an example of to deter others from thinking they can follow his example.

Without any kind of accountability for such a shockingly irresponsible error of judgement, how can the authorities hope to maintain any sort of order?

This isn’t about league titles or Old Firm allegiances, this is about doing the right thing.

In other Rangers news, Darren Fletcher has backed this Gers talent for big season in 20/21 after impressive showing v Aberdeen.
