Ibrox Exclusive: Kemar Roofe faces ‘tough’ task at Rangers, claims Alex Bruce

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that it will be “tough” for Kemar Roofe to get up to speed with the rest of his new Rangers teammates.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender argued that the 27-year-old faces a difficult task, but also claimed that he has what it takes to make up the ground quickly.

Roofe made his debut for the Gers during the 3-0 midweek win over St. Johnstone, coming off the bench for the last half hour.

But before that outing, his last competitive match came for Anderlecht back in December, and Bruce has suggested that rustiness is inevitable.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It’s not easy.

“It’s tough when you’re playing catch up.

“However, it’s been a strange time for all concerned with the professional game with everything that’s gone on.

“It’s thrown everyone out of sync a little bit, so he won’t be the first and he just has to try and get on with it the best he can.

“I’m sure that once he gets a couple of games under his belt he’ll be up to match speed the same as everyone else.”

Roofe struggled with injuries during his time in Belgium, and was limited to 13 league appearances for Anderlecht.

He still managed to score six goals in that run, however, and should hopefully be given a greater role by Steven Gerrard as the season progresses.
