‘Phenomenal’ – Many Rangers fans react to Barisic display v St. Johnstone
Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Borna Barisic for his display against St. Johnstone on Wednesday evening.
The Croatia international stole the show with a stunning performance that saw him bag a goal and an assist as the Gers maintained their 100% record to move to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 3-0 win.
After a relatively sluggish start, Steven Gerrard’s men were sparked into life by a moment of magic from Barisic, who stepped up to take a free-kick from the edge of the box and lashed one right into the top corner.
This really was a special moment from the 27-year-old, and begs the question as to why he doesn’t take every free-kick the Gers are awarded.
Incredibly, however, Barisic almost topped those heroics with his contribution towards Ryan Kent’s second.
After a good, flowing passage of play, Ianis Hagi worked a ball out to the left-hand flank, and Barisic, storming forward in that signature manner of his, moved onto the pass before firing in an inch perfect cutback for Kent to sweep home on the volley.
It was energetic, it was clever, and above all else, it was an example of a player stepping up to the plate with a moment of inspiration to put his team out of sight.
When Barisic is in this mood, there are few, if any, teams in Scotland who can actually handle him.
It’s little wonder that both Alex Rae and Mark Wilson both named him in their teams of the season last term, with the former praising his “terrific quality” and the latter claiming he is the “best left-back in the country”.
It’s incredibly hard to disagree with that statement when the evidence is as strong as this.
