Report – Hibernian ready Ross McCrorie offer, Rangers 22y/o open to potential move
Hibernian are readying a permanent move for Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie, according to the Scottish Sun.
The Daily Record reported earlier this month that Hibs were interested in a potential summer deal for the player.
But this latest update suggests that Jack Ross’ men are about to make act on that interest with an offer that would see the 22-year-old exit Ibrox for good.
Moreover, the report claims that McCrorie is open to the transfer, and is eager to seek are a switch that would see him play regular first team football this season.
The versatile midfielder spent last season on loan at League One outfit Portsmouth, but has failed to feature in a competitive squad since the 2020/21 campaign began.
The Sun go on to suggest that his days in Glasgow are all but numbered, with Steven Gerrard keen to trim his first team squad down in the coming weeks.
Should Rangers sell McCrorie?
Personally, we think it would be a shame to see him go.
Granted, the 22-year-old isn’t quite at the level as Ryan Jack, for instance, who registers more completed passes, more interceptions, and more accurate shots than his younger teammate, as per Wyscout.
But he still impressed Portsmouth enough for the English club to discuss the idea of him returning to Fratton Park this summer, and he evidently has potential.
In that sense, if we were talking about another loan deal, we would be all for it.
Give McCrorie another year to learn his trade, bring him back, and see what he can add to the squad in 12 months time.
But to sell a Scotland youth international and an Ibrox academy product at such an early stage of his career feels like it could be just a tad hasty.
