Ibrox Exclusive: Pundit backs Rangers new boy Itten to diversify Rangers attack
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers new boy will provide manager Steven Gerrard with a “nice option” up front.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Switzerland international can offer the Gers a more physical presence at the point of attack.
The 23-year-old arrived in Glasgow last week alongside fellow hitman Kemar Roofe, and made his debut in a brief cameo at the end of the 3-0 win over St. Mirren on Sunday.
And Bruce believes that his presence will diversify Steven Gerrard’s attacking options.
When asked whether Rangers have been lacking a striker with natural physicality, he said: “You could say that about all of their strikers really. They haven’t really had that option.
“Morelos can be physical but I wouldn’t exactly say he’s a target man.
“Itten’s figures and stats are decent. Whether he can come and do it at Rangers we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s always nice to have different options in attacking areas.
“With the quality they’ve clearly got out on the wings, he’ll be a nice option for Steven to have.”
Itten hit 20 goals in 36 outings across all competitions in Switzerland last season.
Speaking after his debut on Sunday, Gerrard argued that he can become a “big player” for the Gers this term.
