Ibrox Exclusive: Pundit backs Rangers new boy Kemar Roofe to be ‘great signing’
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has backed Kemar Roofe to be a “great signing” for Rangers this season.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender emphasised the striker’s quality, as well as pointing to his popularity during his spell at Leeds United.
Roofe left the Whites to join Anderlecht last summer, but completed a switch back to the United Kingdom when he put pen to paper on a deal with the Gers earlier this week.
And Bruce believes that he has what it takes to be a hit in Glasgow.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Kemar Roofe, great signing.
“I’ve said before that they’ll need a few more striker options, especially with the injury to Jermain Defoe and the uncertainty surrounding Alfredo Morelos.
“He’s a good player, and I’m sure he’ll do well in Scotland, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does.
“It’s ambitious, a good signing to get up to Scotland. I know he was very popular at Leeds – the supporters liked him and I’m sure that if he has a similar rapport at Ibrox, he’ll do well.”
Roofe was ineligible to play for the Gers during the Europa League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday evening, but could be in line to make his debut against St. Mirren on Sunday.
The 27-year-old hit seven goals in 16 outings in Belgium last season, enduring an injury hit campaign.
