‘End of this week’ – Kris Boyd predicts imminent exit for Rangers ace Morelos

Kris Boyd has admitted that he expects Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos to leave the club sooner rather than later.

The Colombian has been heavily linked with an exit from Ibrox for some time now, with Lille emerging as his latest potential destination.

Sky Sports reported last month that the 24-year-old has already agreed a deal to join the Ligue 1 outfit, although Morelos himself has since sought to dispel those rumours.

But Boyd is still convinced that the South American is headed for the exit door in Glasgow, especially since the Gers signed Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten earlier this week.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Scottish Football podcast, he said: “I don’t think Rangers would have brought in two strikers if they were to keep Morelos. To have four strikers to play that one role… it’s not going to happen.

“We said last week Rangers had to get two strikers in, they’ve done that without even selling Alfredo Morelos, and I think towards the end of this week we’ll see something agreed.

“The French window doesn’t open until August 15th, there’s not much that can be announced before that, but it can all be agreed and tied up in place.

“When you look at it, your value is only what someone is prepared to pay for you. There’s no doubt they’ve got a talented footballer there, but there is a lot of flaws to his game, and teams will look at that.”

Is Morelos on his way out?
It definitely feels that way, yes.
Morelos’ exit has felt like an increasing inevitability for some time now, and it has surely been hastened by the arrival of Roofe and Itten.
If and when El Bufalo does go, however, it will be a shame that he has not given a better account of himself in the latter stages of his Ibrox career.
Just one competitive goal in 2020 is a feeble return, and his overall performance against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday evening had the distinct look of a player who has already decided that he is done with the club.
Morelos had no shots, no successful dribbles, and completed just eight passes against the German side, less than a third of his career average of 24.11 per 90 minutes, as per Wyscout.
For most of his 80 minutes on the pitch, he looked as if he didn’t want to be there.
On the basis of that outing, plus the fact that the Gers have Roofe and Itten waiting in the wings, Morelos cannot start against St. Mirren on Sunday.
It’s just a shame that such a poor display could be his last in a Rangers jersey.
