Ibrox Exclusive: Potential £17m Morelos fee could bring in ‘quality additions’, claims Bruce
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that the money Rangers would receive for Alfredo Morelos could help Steven Gerrard to bring in “three or four more quality additions” this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender admitted that losing the Colombian would be a “big blow”, but could also benefit the Gers in the long run.
Morelos has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, and speculation has only grown since Rangers completed the double signing of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten earlier this week.
French outfit Lille have emerged as one potential destination for the South American, with a fee of around £17 million reportedly being lined up, as per the Daily Record.
And Bruce believes that money could prove to be vital in helping Steven Gerrard to bolster his squad even further this summer.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “To lose Morelos would be a big blow for Steven.
“Fingers crossed, if they get the £17 million – or whatever it is, the transfer fee – that will go straight into his pocket and he can go and strengthen certain areas that he might feel still needs strengthening.
“If you get rid of Morelos, maybe that allows him to go and buy three or four more quality additions. I think Rangers need that. That money might come in useful. Steven might feel that it will serve him and his team well.
“I’m sure there’ll be some more wheeling and dealing if they sell Morelos and get a decent chunk of money for him.”
Morelos hit 29 goals in all competitions for the Gers last season, but has scored just once in 2020.
Despite the speculation surrounding his future at Ibrox, the 24-year-old still featured for Rangers in their 1-0 win over Aberdeen on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season.
