Lovenkrands names trio of Rangers youngsters who can become first-team successes

Peter Lovenkrands has named the three Rangers starlets he believes are capable of breaking into Steven Gerrard’s first team picture in the near future.

The Dane left his role with the Gers’ academy earlier this month, but has named Nathan Patterson, Lewis Mayo, and Jamie Barjonas as the three young players that he was most excited by at Ibrox.

Patterson and Barjonas have both made their senior bows for the Gers already, but Mayo is still awaiting his nod after spending the second half of last season on loan.

All three have featured in Rangers’ current preseason tournament in Lyon.

And Lovenkrands wouldn’t be surprised if they were given a more notable role with the first team next season either.

As quoted by the Daily Record, he said: “There’s definitely talent in Rangers Academy. You only have to look at the various Scottish national youth teams to see there’s so many Rangers youngsters involved.

“Lewis Mayo and Nathan Patterson for me have been great. Having worked with them both they are fantastic talents, Jamie Barjonas as well.

“They all have bright futures ahead of them so they will be the obvious ones to step up although Nathan was already in that squad to face Leverkusen.

“Jamie has fantastic abilities, his passing is second to none. He has also added hard work into his game. He is physically ready to step up so he has got a big chance.”

Can these three make it for the first team?

Who better to give the inside scoop on this trio than a man who has worked with them throughout their fledgling careers?

Lovenkrands knows his stuff, and if he is saying that Patterson, Mayo, and Barjonas have got a chance, then they probably do have a very good chance of making it.

Patterson attracted a lot of attention when he made his first team debut against Stranraer back in January, and Alan Hutton has also tipped the youngster for big things.

Similarly, Ibrox News were hugely impressed by what we saw from Barjonas in his outing against OGC Nice at the weekend.

If Mayo can exhibit the same level of potential that those two talent clearly have, then these are indeed very exciting times for the Gers.
