Ibrox Exclusive: Murphy will be given Rangers chance if he proves his worth, claims Bruce
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Jamie Murphy will be given a chance at Rangers if he can prove himself to Steven Gerrard this preseason.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender argued that the wide man is capable of doing “the business” and must use the clean slate of a new campaign to seize his chance in Glasgow.
Murphy spent the second half of last season on loan at Burton Albion, registering seven goals in 10 League One outings.
And Bruce still believes that the 30-year-old can have an impact at Ibrox if he is hungry enough to prove his worth.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It depends on the lad.
“It depends on how he goes back and does in preseason, whether he grabs his opportunity.
“When you go back to preseason it’s kind of a clean slate for most people.
“If he’s there and he’s doing well and he’s catching Steven’s eye, and if he’s doing the business, like we know he can, he’ll be given an opportunity, that’s for sure.”
Murphy has struggled to make a consistent impact for Rangers since signing from Brighton in January 2018.
The winger has made just 29 appearances over that spell, scoring six goals in the process.
