Gogic wants ‘amazing’ Rangers talent Docherty to rejoin Hibernian this summer
Hibernian new boy Alex Gogic has claimed that it would be great for his side to re-sign Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty this summer.
The 23-year-old impressed during his spell with Hibs, scoring three and assisting five more over the course of eight matches in all competitions.
And Gogic, who played with Docherty at Hamilton Academical, has admitted that he would relish the opportunity to rekindle their partnership in the centre of the park in the future.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “Greg is an amazing player. Playing with him again would be brilliant. He’s strong, a powerful runner, and I enjoyed playing with him when I came to Hamilton.
“Greg scoring in the play-offs is an amazing memory.
“I talk to him often and if he does decide to come back, I think that would be great for Hibs.
“We complement each other well in midfield. I don’t run forward as much, but I can cut out the other team’s attacks and give the ball to someone like Greg to use his pace to drive the team forward. That helps.”
What should Rangers do with Docherty?
The Gers have a big decision to make when it comes to Docherty this summer.
On the face of it, the 23-year-old might struggle for regular game time at Ibrox next season, with Steven Gerrard well-stocked in the centre of the park.
But it’s also hard to deny that Docherty has talent.
Eight goal involvements in eight matches is a very impressive record, and his average of 90.89 successful actions per 90 minute actually exceeds Scott Arfield‘s average for the season by 15.74 per game, as per Wyscout.
The 23-year-old also recorded an average of eight dribbles per game during his time with Hibs, a big improvement on Arfield’s average of 1.8, and his ability to carry the ball forwards could prove to be useful asset to the Gers in the future.
Perhaps another loan spell will be the best compromise for Docherty in the coming weeks, but Rangers shouldn’t give up hope of him becoming a regular first team feature for them just yet.
