Report – Bristol City have not given up on deal to lure Gerrard away from Rangers

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is still Bristol City’s number one target to become their new manager, according to Bristol Live

The 40-year-old emerged as a target for the Robins recently after they parted company with Lee Johnson following a poor run in form, as per the Daily Express.

It is understood that City chiefs see Gerrard as the man capable of taking them to the Premier League next season.

TalkSPORT host Jim White then delivered a major update on the story last week when he reported that Gerrard had “absolutely no interest” in leaving the Gers.

Initially, that appeared to be the end of the matter, but the local outlet is now reporting that City are still keen on luring the ex-Liverpool man back to England.

Moreover, they suggest that there is still a chance a deal could be struck with Gerrard not rejecting the prospect of a switch entirely just yet and the club willing to go all out to get him.

What do we make of this?

If we’re being honest, even with this latest update, we would be absolutely amazed if Gerrard left Rangers this summer.

The man is a born battler, and the prospect of him just walking away from the challenge of preventing Celtic from winning a 10th consecutive league title just doesn’t ring true.

Already we have seen him make serious moves in the transfer market, swooping for Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey, and Jon McLaughlin, and it’s hard to see him abandoning the project he is so clearly building any time soon.

Moreover, Gerrard himself has made it clear that he intends to stay put in Glasgow for the time being at least.

Of course, nothing is certain in football, but this would be a pretty major shock if it actually happened.
