Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce claims Jones can be ‘big asset’ for Rangers if he ‘knuckles down’

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Jordan Jones can be a “big asset” for Rangers next season if he “knuckles down” this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender lavished praised on his ex-teammate, and suggested that he has more than enough talent to become a hit in Glasgow.

Jones completed a move to the Gers from Killie last summer, but was limited to just seven league appearances after sustaining a serious knee injury in an Old Firm clash against Celtic early in the campaign.

The 25-year-old is back to full fitness now, however, and Bruce believes that he can become a threat for Steven Gerrard’s men – provided he puts in the effort over the coming weeks.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “He needs to knuckle down.

“I know from playing with him at Kilmarnock that he’s got bags of ability. He’s got that turn of pace where he can take people on, and he’s a tricky winger.

“If he can get himself fit – I know he’s struggled with injury after hurting himself in the derby – he could get himself in.

“But yeah, he needs to knuckle down, and if he does and he takes his opportunity, he could be a big asset for Rangers this year.”

Jones has yet to register a goal for the Gers over the course of his 14 appearances in all competitions.

He does have two assists to his name, however, with both coming in Europa League qualification.
