‘I’m sure’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce claims McCrorie will be hungry to become Rangers No.1
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that young Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie will be eager to come back and challenge Allan McGregor for the number one jersey in Glasgow next season.
Speaking to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the 22-year-old stopper will be keen to stake his claim for a regular spot in Steven Gerrard’s plans now that he has had a taste of senior action at a good competitive level.
McCrorie is set to spend the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Livingston after the Gers sanctioned his exit earlier this month.
The player spent the second half of the season on loan with Livi after initially turning out for Queen of the South prior to a January recall.
And Bruce believes that Rangers are gearing him up for a tilt at McGregor’s first team spot when he returns next summer.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “That’s why they’ve done it.
“That’s the situation for any young player, when you go out on loan and you do well, and you get a taste of first team football, you want to come to come back and try and challenge whoever is in your place at your parent club.
“I’m sure that’s the same situation with McCrorie – he’ll be no different.
“I’m sure he’ll be looking to challenge Allan when he comes back.”
McCrorie made eight appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Livingston last season, conceding nine goals and keeping two clean sheets.
The keeper is still yet to make his first team debut for the Gers.
