Report - Rangers set to do battle with Celtic to sign Grady Diangana
Rangers are set to do battle with bitter rivals Celtic to sign West Ham winger Grady Diangana this summer, according to The Herald.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a fine season with Championship outfit West Brom, hitting seven goals and six assists in 28 league outings this term.
And it is understood that his eye-catching performances could lead to a scramble to secure his services in the coming weeks.
The Sun initially reported that both Celtic and Dutch giants Ajax are keen on the player, who West Ham value at upwards of £15 million.
But the Hammers are also said to be eager to tie him down to a longer stay in the capital, while the Baggies would be open to securing him on a permanent basis – especially if they gain promotion to the Premier League.
The Herald claim that the Gers have already made contact with the player’s representatives, and came close to signing him last summer before shifting their attentions to other targets.
Could Rangers really land Diangana this summer?
As much as we would love to have the winger at Ibrox, it’s hard to see how this one could happen.
If West Ham are genuinely demanding £15 million for Diangana, then you would have to question whether the Gers have to financial capabilities to get that deal over the line.
Factor in interest from the continent and the Premier League, and it’s even more difficult to imagine us winning the race.
Stranger things have happened though, and there’s no doubting that Diangana is a special player.
The wide man has been described as “fantastic” by Sky Sports pundit Keith Andrews this season, with the ex-midfielder focussing in particular on his “electric pace”.
We would love to have his speediness at Ibrox, but unfortunately, we just don’t see it happening.
