Report – Lazio eye up £20 million deal for Rangers hitman Morelos

Lazio have put Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos on their summer transfer shortlist, according to The Scottish Sun.

The 24-year-old has been linked with an exit from Ibrox for some time now, with Football Insider reporting recently that the Gers are likely to accept a bid of around £12 million as the likelihood of him leaving this summer increases.

And Serie A giants Lazio are said to be keeping tabs on the South American.

The Italian club are understood to be in the market for a new striker this summer, and have identified Morelos as one of a number of potential options.

Watford’s Luis Suarez and Crystal Palace’s Alexander Sorloth are also said to be on Lazio’s shortlist, but sources have told The Sun that sporting director Igli Tare is particularly impressed with the Rangers man.

A fee of around £20 million is being touted.

Will Morelos join Lazio this summer?

This kind of move is certainly not out of the question.

With an increasing expectation that El Bufalo will be on his way this summer, we’re likely to see a number of clubs linked with him.

It was only last week that we were hearing about Everton readying a bid, for example.

And you would have to say that a move to Serie A seems like it would be something that could appeal to Morelos.

It has already been reported that the hitman turned down a move to Qatar because he didn’t believe that the level of competition would be high enough.

The Italian league is still one of the best in Europe, and Lazio are consistently there or thereabouts in terms of the Champions League qualification picture.

In fact, the only thing that doesn’t ring true about this report is that £20 million price tag.

Would it be preferable to a fee of around £12 million? Absolutely, yes.

But does it also suggest that this report is perhaps not the most reliable? You would be inclined to say yes to that too.
