Ibrox View: Wonderful goal from reported Rangers target Diangana emphasises potential

Rangers have emerged as the latest club to be linked with a potential swoop for Grady Diangana.

According to The Herald, the Gers are keen on the West Ham winger, who has spent an impressive season on loan at West Brom.

The Sun have previously reported that both Celtic and Ajax are eager to snap him up too, with his valuation at around £15 million this summer.

RangersAnd while that price tag may put to bed any genuine hopes the Gers might have of landing Diangana this summer, there’s no doubting that he is a special talent.

Over the course of 2019/20, he has averaged more successful dribbles per game than Ryan Kent, as well as having a better shot accuracy, a higher cross accuracy, and having a higher xG, as per Wyscout.

And his recent goal against Hull City was a fine example of what he’s all about.

Diangana picks up the ball just outside the Hull box, and his first thought is to turn on the spot and drive into the area.

His directness is a real threat, as is his considerable pace, and when he sets his mind to it, the wide man can be devastating.

But Diangana is more than just a speed demon.

The winger has a real canniness to him, and possesses the quickness of mind and feet to match.

In the image above, he has just teased the Hull defender into making challenge before dropping his shoulder and digging out a wonderful dummy that suddenly allows him to move into acres of space in the opposition penalty area.

And then he puts the hammer down.

Diangana strides across the turf, leaving two defenders in his wake, before showing the composure and skill to drill a fantastic low effort into the bottom corner.

It’s a brilliant individual goal that serves as a reminder, as if anybody needed one, of just how much potential this young man has.

We would love to see him realise that potential at Ibrox, but it would take a minor miracle for us to be able to afford a deal of this calibre in the coming weeks.
