Ibrox Exclusive: Rangers challenge would be ‘very different’ for linked ace Toney, claims Bruce

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Ivan Toney will face a different sort to of challenge if he makes the move from Peterborough United to Rangers this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender praised the 24-year-old for having a lot of positive qualities, but also suggested that the pressure of playing for one of the biggest sides in Scotland would be far removed from his experiences of playing in League One.

Toney, who hit 26 goals for Peterborough in all competitions this season, has emerged as a leading target for the Gers this summer, with Football Insider reporting earlier this month that the club are keen to open talks with the forward.

That interest has largely been sparked by the increasing likelihood that Alfredo Morelos will leave Ibrox at some point in the coming months.

But Bruce has expressed some reservations about how easily Toney would adapt to life north of the border.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “To replace Morelos with Ivan Toney?

“Ivan’s had a good season in League One, but it’ll be very different playing for Rangers, with the demands that come with playing up in Glasgow.

“He’s got good attributes, Ivan, don’t get me wrong, but they’re big boots to fill if you’re going in to replace Morelos, that’s for sure.”

Bruce played alongside Toney during a shared spell at Wigan Athletic together during the 2017/18 campaign.

Rangers aren’t the only side said to be interested in the hitman, with Championship duo West Brom and Brentford, as well as bitter rivals Celtic, also said to be keen, as per Football Insider.
