‘It would be a mistake’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce urges Rangers to hang on to Morelos
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers would be making a mistake by letting Alfredo Morelos leave for any price this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Colombian’s departure would leave a hole in Steven Gerrard’s squad that would be difficult to fill.
According to Football Insider, the financial impact of the Coronavirus could mean that the Gers are willing to let Morelos leave for as little as £12 million this summer.
But Bruce believes that sanctioning a sale at any price would be an error from the Glaswegian giants.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I think it would be a mistake letting him go, no matter what the money is, because he’s been their talisman for the last couple of years.
“Can you imagine taking him out of their squad? It would be a huge loss to them.
“However, we don’t know what the financial situation is behind the scenes. Can they afford to hold out for a figure that they want, or do they need to cash in and get some funds for the running of the club?
“Only the powers that be know that answer.”
Morelos has struggled immensely for form in 2020, scoring just one of his 29 goals in all competitions since the turn of the year.
El Bufalo was back on the scoresheet earlier this week, however, nothing the winner in a friendly win over Hamilton.
