Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce throws support behind loan exit for Rangers winger Hastie

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that it is the right move for Rangers winger Jake Hastie to rejoin Motherwell on loan this season.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that it was imperative that the 22-year-old gets regular senior minutes under his belt to help his development.

Hastie spent a portion of this season on loan at Rotherham United, but struggled to make a consistent impact in England, and returned to Glasgow in January.

Since signing from Motherwell last summer, the wide man has made just two appearances for the Gers.

It was confirmed last week that the player will return to his boyhood club for the 2020/21 campaign, and Bruce is in favour of the move.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “When you get to his age, the important thing is playing every week.

“He’s gone to Ibrox and he’s not played much.

“If I were to offer him advice, as I’ve said on numerous occasions, any young lads are better playing 90 minutes.

“If he has to leave [on a permanent basis] it will be disappointing for him, because he’s not had that many opportunities, but he’s got to go out and play because he needs to put himself in the window.”

Hastie made 18 senior appearances for Motherwell before signing for Rangers last summer.

During that spell he hit seven goals and an assist, but managed just three goals and an assist during his time with Rotherham United this term.
