‘I’m happy’ – Kemar Roofe addressees reported Rangers interest

Anderlecht striker Kemar Roofe has seemingly poured cold water over rumours linking him with a potential move to Rangers this summer.

The 27-year-old has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for the Gers this summer, with the Scottish Sun suggesting that the Glaswegian giants will look to reignite their interest in the hitman if Alfredo Morelos leaves Ibrox.

But Roofe, who signed for the Belgian outfit from Leeds United last summer, has suggested that he is content on staying with his current employers.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, he said: “I will stay at Anderlecht until someone tells me otherwise.

“I don’t know whether Rangers made an offer for me. I’m happy here and my head is 100% with Anderlecht.

“As for me being in Glasgow, I don’t think I’ve ever set foot in Scotland in my life.”

What can we make of Roofe’s comments?

This hardly sounds like a player who is on his way to Ibrox this summer.

Roofe endured an injury-hit season in his debut campaign in Belgium and was limited to just 16 outings in all competitions.

Still, he managed seven goals, and his stats certainly suggest that he has what it takes to be a success in Scotland.

While he may have a lower goals per game rate and xG than Alfredo Morelos in 2019/20, Roofe actually has a higher shot accuracy rate and completes more passes and dribbles per match, as per Wyscout.

Belgian outlet Walfoot have claimed that the Gers have already made a move for the striker, but based on his comments here, they could be facing a real slog if they stand any chance of convincing him that his future lies in Glasgow.
