‘Big blow’ – Rangers Exclusive: Alex Bruce reacts to Katic injury news

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Nikola Katic’s injury will be a “big blow” for Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Croatian is one of the Gers’ best players on his day.

The 23-year-old is set to be sidelined for the “foreseeable future” after picking up a training ground injury last month.

And Bruce has gone as far as to suggest that his prolonged absence could force Steven Gerrard into making a move in the transfer window this summer.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It’s a big blow for them because he’s one of their best players.

“Obviously, Stevie will be really disappointed with that.

“It might force Gerrard’s hand – it depends what he’s got to spend. He’ll have been having those conversations.

“Listen, if Rangers want to go and compete with Celtic, they need to go and spend a lot of money. If they don’t, I think we’ll find a frustrated Ibrox faithful and a frustrated Steven Gerrard.”

Katic has been a regular for the Gers during Gerrard’s tenure in Glasgow, and made 29 appearances across all competitions last season.

There is still no concrete indication as to how long the defender is expected to be sidelined, although he did post an update on Friday suggesting that knee surgery had gone well.
