‘Great move for everyone’ – These Rangers fans react to McCrorie loan confirmation

Rangers have confirmed that young goalkeeper Robby McCrorie will be leaving the club to join Livingston on loan next season.

The Gers made the announcement on Thursday, and fans have flocked to social media to express their delight at the deal.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of this term with the Scottish Premiership side, after having spent the opening stages of the campaign with Championship side Queen of the South.

And the stopper is now set for a second spell with the club as he looks to further his development in the senior game.

Rangers recently made a move to bring in Jon McLaughlin on a free transfer, with the 32-year-old’s arrival seemingly shunting McCrorie further down the pecking order at Ibrox.

But now it would seem that it was the Gers’ plan to ship the youngster out all along, and that McLaughlin’s arrival is a means of covering for Allan McGregor in the loanee’s absence.

And it’s blatantly obvious that he can flourish at Livingston based on his stats for last season.

As per Wyscout, McCrorie averaged 3.03 saves per game this term, with a reflex rate of 55.4%.

That’s more than McGregor, and only 0.3% lower than the veteran stopper’s reflex save rate.

McCrorie has also conceded less than a goal a game, even though he has an xCG of 1.11.

That means that he is consistently saving shots that he is not expected to.

If he can carry that form into next term, then there is no reason to believe that he can’t return to Rangers in 12 months ready to assume McGregor’s mantle between the sticks.
