Report: New Rangers signings to make debuts in pre-season friendly on Friday
Rangers will finally get to play some football this week when they play Hamilton in a pre-season friendly on Friday.
The game will be the first action the Rangers players have seen since the Premiership was ended early and the title awarded to Celtic off the pitch.
According to the Scottish Sun, the game will play behind closed doors at the Hummel Training Centre.
The report claims Rangers will use different XIs for both halves of the game and that new signings Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin will make their debuts.
Gers are supposed to be travelling to France next week to play Lyon and Nice in front of a small crowd.
However, at the latest Scottish government briefing, Nicola Sturgeon refused to rubber-stamp the UK-approved air bridge between Scotland and France.
Rangers are waiting for this as without it they could be forced to quarantine for 14 days on their return.
With the Gers set to kick-off their 20/21 campaign on August 1 – just three weeks away – it’s absolutely critical that the pre-season campaign gets the green light.
Gerrard needs to look at his new signings in the context of the squad and we’re fascinated to see how the new players get on.
The rules are obviously the same for all sides but this is a critical season for Rangers and for Gerrard.
We hope that Sturgeon can give the go-ahead today in line with UK advice.
