Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce claims Rangers star Morelos would thrive at top level
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos would be able to cut it at the top table of European football.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Colombian would thrive on playing his football among players of the very highest calibre.
Bruce’s assessment comes after a figure purporting to represent Morelos claimed that he had offered the hitman to Napoli ahead of a potential summer move.
That story was quickly rubbished by Morelos’ actual agent, but the ex-SPFL centre-back has argued that the 24-year-old would be right at home in a Champions League side such as Napoli.
When asked whether Morelos could cope at that level during an interview with Ibrox News, he said: “I think he could.
“I think a goalscorer is a goalscorer when you know where the back of the net is.
“I think when you’re playing with better teams, when you’re playing with better players around you, you’re going to generate more chances. Morelos has proved he can put chances away.
“It would be good for Morelos to play with better players, and I’m sure he’d been an asset to whatever side he plays in.”
Morelos hit 29 goals in all competitions for Rangers this season, but has scored just once since the turn of the year.
Exit rumours have been persistent for some time now, but ex-Celtic defender Mark Wilson recently claimed that he believes the Gers would struggle to get more than £10 million for the South American in the summer transfer window.
