‘I’m not so sure’ – Mark Wilson claims Rangers would struggle to get £10m for Morelos
Rangers could struggle to get an offer of £10 million for star striker Alfredo Morelos this summer, according to Mark Wilson.
The 24-year-old hit 29 goals in all competitions last season, but has slumped since the turn of the year and has just one goal to his name in 2020.
And ex-Celtic defender Wilson believes that his sudden dip in front of goal could prevent the Gers from demanding big money if they do sell him in the coming weeks.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Thursday, he said: “It wasn’t so long ago that Alfredo Morelos was the number one striker, he couldn’t be dropped.
“Rangers relied heavily on him. Now, he has to catch the manager’s eye and show that he has to be part of that starting eleven. Every player has his price.
“You just wonder what that price is. Not so long ago the prices being thrown about were £10-15 million.
“Now, I’m not so sure Rangers would get a bid of that.”
How much is Morelos worth now?
That really is the question.
It wasn’t too long ago that the Gers were said to be looking for a fee of around £35 million for the striker.
Clearly, that kind of fee is no longer a realistic aim.
For one thing, Morelos has been pretty dire in 2020, and no club in their right mind is going to make such a substantial investment on a striker who has scored once since Boxing Day.
Moreover, the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic is likely to cause havoc in the transfer market, and with teams not having as much in the way of funding, it’s only natural that spending and transfer fees will fall.
That being said, £10 million still seems low for a player who hit almost 30 goals for a Europa League side last season.
Football Insider suggest that the Gers have slashed their own expectations to around £15 million, and we believe that it would take a fee of at least that to pry Morelos away from Ibrox in the near future.
