Rangers new boy Bassey issues Twitter verdict on ‘amazing’ first day at Ibrox
Calvin Bassey has taken to Twitter to deliver his initial verdict on new club Rangers.
The young full-back arrived at Ibrox on Wednesday after agreeing a pre-contractual agreement with the Gers following the expiration of his deal with Premier League top four contenders Leicester City.
The 20-year-old never made a senior appearance for the Foxes, but is considered to be an exciting talent, and has already drawn praise from new manager Steven Gerrard.
And it would appear that Bassey is equally enamoured by his new surroundings.
Following a day of media duties at his new club, including an exclusive interview with Rangers TV, the defender took to his personal Twitter account to write: “What an amazing club”.
What can we expect from Bassey?
This signing feels like it could have “low key masterstroke” written all over it.
Bassey might not have made his mark for Leicester at senior level, but he certainly showed enough for the reserves to get tongues wagging.
And comments from Matt Elliott prove that.
According to the former Leicester defender: “Calvin is a big, strong, powerful lad who can play at centre half or left back. He has certainly got the physical attributes.
“He is very capable for a boy of his age. He is very athletic, has got great pace. He can get forward from the full-back position.”
Similarly, former Rangers loanee Andy King has suggested that the youngster has “massive potential”.
Bassey is in a relatively fortunate position in the sense that he won’t be thrown in at the deep end at Ibrox, and if he can come into the squad, deputise for Borna Barisic, and learn his craft from the Croatian, he should be able to come on leaps and bounds in a very short period of time.
Signing him on a free could prove to be a wonderful coup.
