Rangers Exclusive: Morelos exit would be ‘huge blow’, Toney interest ‘makes sense’, claims Bruce

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that it would “make sense” for Rangers to take a punt on Ivan Toney this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that in an ideal world the Gers would look to keep hold of star man Alfredo Morelos in the coming months, but also argued that Toney could be a smart option to replace him.

According to Football Insider, Toney’s current employers Peterborough United have slapped an £8 million price tag on the hitman.

And Bruce has argued that a fee of around that amount could be feasible for the Gers, despite their limited budget.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Rangers haven’t got massive amounts of money, I think we all know that.

“So if they take a punt on someone like Ivan, who has scored a few goals for Peterborough, it would make sense.

“Listen, it would be a huge blow to Rangers if they lose Morelos. He’s someone in my opinion who, if they’re going to compete with Celtic, they need to keep hold of.

“But if they do lose him, Ivan might be a possibility to come in and replace him.”

Toney hit 26 goals for Posh in all competitions this season, but is expected to leave the club after they failed to secure promotion from League One.

With regards to Morelos, a number of clubs – including Premier League outfit Everton – are expected to pursue his services this summer.
