Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce backs Halliday to secure ‘decent move’ after Rangers exit

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that he has “absolutely no doubt” that Andy Halliday could play in England following his departure from Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender praised the 28-year-old for his attitude, and suggested that the versatile talent should have no problem securing a “decent move” in the coming months.

Halliday was one of six players who the Gers confirmed will leave the club upon the expiration of their current contracts at the end of the season.

The utility man, a lifelong Gers supporter, has struggled for game time this season, registering just 12 outings in all competitions.

But Bruce believes that he is more than good enough to thrive for a club south of the border.

When asked whether Halliday could play in England during an interview with Ibrox News, he said: “I think he can. He’s a good enough player.

“It’ll be tough for the lad, leaving Rangers, because obviously he grew up out the back of the ground, he’s a passionate Rangers fan – everyone knows that.

“It will be a difficult one for him, but by leaving Rangers, you never know what door it might open. He could get a move down south, and I’m sure he could do a job for someone, absolutely no doubt about it.

“He’s a good honest player, and I’m sure he’ll get a decent move.”

Halliday started his youth career at Rangers, but left the club in 2006 to join Livingston.

He would return nine years later in a free transfer from Bradford City, and has since gone on to make 152 appearances for the Gers, scoring 18 goals and assisting 13 more.
