Ibrox View: Reliable journo makes worrying prediction on potential Gerrard Rangers exit

RANGERS OPINION

It’s probably safe to say that Steven Gerrard hasn’t had the impact that he would have liked during his time at Rangers.

Without a doubt, progress has been made in several key areas – and the fact that the Gers’ points per match in the Scottish Premiership has jumped from 2.00 last season to 2.31 this term shows that improvement is still happening – but the fact remains that Gerrard is yet to lift a trophy at Ibrox.

And according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the former Liverpool legend could walk away from the Glaswegian giants before he amends that fact.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the reliable reporter said: “I actually worry at whether he’ll be there for the start of next season, I’ve got to say.

“The vibes I’m getting is that it’s not really worked out too well behind the scenes with the whole carry on about maybe the lack of money that’s now becoming obvious at Rangers.

“Gerrard probably didn’t go up there to be the poor relation of Glasgow. He went up there to maybe even attract outside investment to the club with his name and that’s not really happened.

“Put it this way, if you ask me right now, I don’t think there will be a third anniversary. I think we’ve had the second one, I don’t think there will be a third.”

Here’s hoping that Nixon is well wide of the mark with his assessment.

Gerrard might have hoped for better from his first two seasons at Ibrox – as we all probably did – but that doesn’t mean that his entire legacy has to be a bust.

If he walks away now, he will be forever remembered as just another failed experiment from the Gers.

But there is enough in this current squad, whether it be this season’s Europa League run or the emergence of players like Borna Barisic and Ianis Hagi, to suggest that good times could be just around the corner.

If Gerrard bails too soon, he could regret it forever.
