‘It stinks’ – Rod Stewart slams ‘horrid’ Rangers in on-air rant
Celtic-mad rockstar Rod Stewart has savaged Rangers for their “childish” stance on ending the Scottish Premiership season early.
The Gers are currently embroiled in a bitter war of words with the SPFL over their handling of the Coronavirus crisis, and the possibility of declaring the Hoops champions without playing any remaining league fixtures.
The Ibrox club claim to have a dossier of evidence their proves their allegations of voting malpractice, relating back to last month’s vote on ending the lower league season early – a ballot which opened up the possibility of a similar course of action being taken in the top flight.
The club are calling for an independent investigation into the issue, but Stewart is not impressed with the Gers for digging their heels in over the matter.
Speaking on talkSPORT, as per the Daily Record, he said: “Rangers might not want it, but we want it. If the shoe was on the other foot and this was Rangers, and it was Celtic causing such a fuss I’d be embarrassed.
“I’d want Celtic to give Rangers the league if they were 13 points in front with only eight games to go. I think this is such bad sportsmanship, it’s horrid.
“It stinks, it really does. It’s the whole deflection thing, lets put the story somewhere else and take it away from nine-in-a-row.
“It’s childish, in my opinion.”
Does Stewart have a point here?
Believe it or not, Rod, the world doesn’t revolve around Celtic.
Yes, it is true that a byproduct of an independent inquiry could be that the Hoops are denied a ninth consecutive league title.
But in our heart of hearts, we all know that it would have taken a minor miracle for us to have won the title from our current position this season anyway.
The fact is that this argument is about so much more than petty point scoring or blind tribalism.
This is about holding the SPFL to account over allegations of voting malpractice.
That is a serious matter, and one that needs to be addressed if we are to maintain any semblance of integrity in the Scottish game.
